SAKK & Celgene’s «HEM Pioneer» Grant, SAKK/Dr. Paul Janssen Fellowship and SAKK/Pfizer Award were presented at this year’s SAKK semi-annual meeting in Zurich at the 2nd Swiss Oncology & Hematology Congress (SOHC), taking place 26 to 28 June 2019 in Zurich

SAKK & Celgene’s «HEM Pioneer» Grant

The SAKK/Celgene Grant 2019 for pioneering ideas to fight blood cancer has been awarded to Dr. med. Corinne Widmer at University Hospital Zurich for her project “Use of artificial intelligence in the fight against blood cancer: Early detection of diseased blood cells in blood smears of peripheral blood”. SAKK’s HEM Pioneer Grant is funded by Celgene and aims to support projects and research that could potentially pave the way for a game changing outcome in the field of blood cancers. The grant is endowed with CHF 50,000.

SAKK/Dr. Paul Janssen Fellowship

The Dr. Paul Janssen Fellowship 2019, providing a stipend of CHF 30,000, has been awarded to Dr. med Christian Fankhauser at University Hospital Zurich. The award was presented by Prof. Dr. Viviane Hess, Jury President. The educational grant offers the opportunity to gain experience at a renowned oncology research center abroad and to acquire the necessary know-how and tools to develop and conduct top-quality clinical trials.

SAKK/Pfizer Award

The SAKK/Pfizer Award 2019 has been awarded to Prof. Dr. med. Walter Weber at University Hospital Basel for the research publication entitled “Impact of a surgical sealing patch on lymphatic drainage after axillary dissection for breast cancer: the SAKK 23/13 multicenter randomized phase III trial”. The award is endowed with CHF 20,000 and honors patient-oriented, practice-relevant research in clinical oncology.
