Lay summaries of clinical trial results ensure transparency, knowledge and trust building in clinical research for the public and can benefit current and future clinical trial participants. It is our ethical obligation to give patients better, understandable and reliable access to the results of our clinical trials.

The legal requirements for the publication of lay summaries of clinical trial results is expected to come into force in the EU at the beginning of 2022 for trials with pharmaceutical products. For clinical trials with medical devices, the legal basis in Switzerland and the EU is already applicable as of May 26, 2021.

The SAKK Patient Advisory Board therefore organizes an event on the topic of «Lay Summaries of Clinical Trial Results» at the SOHC Congress on November 20, 2021 from 10:00-12:00, bringing patient organization representatives, researchers, Swiss authorities and sponsors of clinical trials together to discuss this topic and exchange experiences.
